FAQ

Who makes your pottery?

All of our pottery is made by the two of us (Cheyenne and Zac) . We both have a hand in making each piece of pottery that we produce. Cheyenne usually throws and trims pieces on the wheel and does most of the slip-trailing, while Zac helps out with handbuilding and does the glazing as well as the map designing. He also writes most of our emails, while Cheyenne composes social media posts.

How are your pieces made?

Our round, “cylindrical” pieces (mugs, vases, utensil holders, plates, bowls, etc.) are thrown on the potter’s wheel, while our flat, rectangular pieces (trays) are handbuilt from slabs of clay and formed using plywood molds that we manufacture ourselves. Each piece is handmade, so there will always be some slight variation in size and shape, making each one a unique piece of functional art.

How are the map designs applied?

We apply our map designs through a process called slip trailing, which involves using a squeeze bottle to apply “slip” (liquified clay) to the piece, in a manner that is similar to icing a cake.

But we don’t just free-hand the designs! Before the slip can be added to the piece, we wrap a translucent piece of plastic (which has the map design on it) around the pot, and then trace over the design with a pencil, so that it leaves the imprint of the design on the piece. These imprinted lines then act as a guide for the slip trailing.

Can you do custom locations on your pottery?

Yes we can! Mountains and hiking trails work best for our process, since we rely on topographic map information to create our designs. We can occasionally do lakes and rivers, but urban landscapes or flat areas are tricky for us.

We charge a one-time, $25 custom design fee to create new maps. Once we’ve created the map, it can be applied to an unlimited amount of pieces without any further design-fees.

Can your pottery be shipped?

Yes! We can ship anywhere in the contiguous United States. And we can ship pieces up to a certain dimension, about the size of a utensil holder or ‘medium’ tray (approximately 9.5” x 6”).

Can I pick up pottery directly from your studio?

Yes! Studio pickups work great if you’re interested in ordering a piece that is too large for us to ship, or if you’re local to the Hudson Valley and would like to avoid the cost of shipping. Just let us know when you’re able to come by, and we’d be happy to schedule a pickup!

I would like to place a custom order for the holidays. When should I have my order request in by?

October 1st is our holiday order deadline, burn no time is TOO early! Since the holidays and the months leading up to the holidays are by far our busiest time of year, we need as much lead time as possible for making custom holiday orders.

Do you do Wholesale?

Yes we do! We have partnerships with several retail locations in the Hudson Valley and beyond. You can find a list of those on our website here:

We are currently maxed-out with how many retail locations we can stock.

Do you offer a bulk discount for things like end of year company gifts or Galas?

Yes. We offer a 20% off discount for orders of a certain size. If you’re interested in placing a large order, you can email us at [email protected] and we can discuss the details further.
